It’s not hard to have your confidence shaken by a life event. In fact, for most of us, this happens. Trust me, I understand. Yet how are you supposed to claw back this confidence once it’s gone? If there’s anything I’ve noticed, it’s that the very act of losing your confidence somehow gives us the chance to grow it back to be stronger and more resilient than ever before. It’s almost as if the periods of low confidence are when your roots bury more deeply into the ground, only to help you at your height once more grow your branches and leaves further, enjoying the renewed stable base.

For instance, when you get older, you start to realize that gaining approval from others is often a fool’s game, and that the path to being self-assured is to ask for your own approval to begin with. If only we learned that as easily in childhood. So what tips would we bestow for someone looking to once again replenish or kindle their confidence levels? The following words should yield some insight:

Live Your Truth

Live your truth to the extent that you can. This means that if you find something enticing and exciting, you should have to ask permission to experience. For most people, this is a given, yet there can be certain societal expectations or social pressures to conform to how your ‘identity’ may be regarded. For instance, an attractive woman may be routinely asked by clueless people just why she’s so interested in video games or dungeons and dragons, despite enjoying them for years and having an even more encyclopedic knowledge than the incredulous and inquisitive person opening that dialogue. Should she feel bad about that? Of course not.

Additionally, a middle-aged gruff and rugged truck driver may adore the idea of opera singing or learning how to dance, should he worry about having his friends poke fun at him, and should he bend over backward to satisfy them? Not all all. This world is more diverse than we know, particularly when it comes to interests, and so never be afraid of living your truth. If more people did that, this world would be a vastly better place.

Care For Oneself

Care for yourself first. It’s important to do this, because if you do not care for yourself, it’s tough to expect others to. No matter if you need to wear the best protective underwear for adults, or you are disabled, or if you have a hair lip, or if you deviate from the norm in one of a million ways – know that you are more than enough. However, it’s important to conform to that idea yourself first of all. Then, you needn’t worry about what others think.

Friends That Understand

Friends that understand your quirks, medical necessities, or need for growth and maintenance can be some of the best allies you have, provided you also extend to them that courtesy. In fact, our social circle can in great part dictate how we feel about ourselves, although of course, we must have the final say. The more you can connect and meet with people who are positive, humble, and understand, even if that’s just one quality friend among the hordes of acquaintances you have, your life and confidence will improve.

With this advice, we hope you can remain as confident as you deserve to be.
