I don’t know about you, but this is the time of year where I usually start to feel just the slightest bit of panic setting in. After all, we’ve reached that time of year when the bells start jingling and festive spirit is setting in. However, with all of that fun comes the near-constant feeling that there is just so much to do and not nearly enough time to get it all done. However, you don’t have to end up getting buried in all of the preparation and confusion of the holiday season. Here are just a few things that you can do to take the stress out of the festivities.

Get presents early

I love buying gifts for people but it can often feel like a pretty big task, especially when you’ve got a big family to buy for like I do! Not only that but with kids, you can never be sure what they’re going to want. One year they’re playing with trucks and trains, the next they’re yelling about wanting the best metal detector and the next they’re glued to the games console for hours on end. By starting the present shopping early, you’re going to be able to take your time and you won’t feel rushed trying to find that perfect gift for everyone.

Make a timetable

I’m sure there are some people who can just wing it when it comes to getting everything ready for the holidays but I’m definitely not one of them! I need things to be planned out as carefully as possible. One of the best things that I’ve found is to create a clear timetable for all of the things that need doing. From buying the food in advance to exactly when the decorating and cooking is going to start. Having some kind of visual aid is a great way to stay organized, even at this incredibly chaotic time of year.

Give people jobs to do

One of the very best things about being part of such a big family is that I have a whole lot of helping hands around the house. This means that I don’t have to deal with everything myself and can share the jobs around. Being able to give the people in your home jobs to do can not only take a lot of stress off your shoulders but it’s actually a really lovely way to bring you and your family together as you get your home ready for the festive season.

Sure, it might seem like thinking about all of these things so soon is going a little bit overboard. However, a lot of people end up focusing so much on making the holidays perfect for everyone else that they neglect their own enjoyment. I don’t want to have to spend my holidays running around and never getting a chance to relax. By thinking about these kinds of things in advance, you’re going to be able to actually enjoy yourself rather than running around trying to make sure that everything is perfect.
