No one ever wants to get into an injury, but sometimes there is nothing we can do about it. It could be that a stupid driver was texting on the road, it could be that Sandra didn’t secure the shelves properly at work… injury can happen at any time.
So how do I claim for compensation? The idea of going through the system and sitting in court can be so difficult, but I have a few handy tips today to help you if you ever find yourself in an accident.
Gather your evidence
The first thing I would do if I got into an accident is of course make sure that I’m not injured and check on anyone else who may be involved. But the second thing I want to do is take some evidence. This can involve getting your camera phone out and taking photos and videos of the scene, and this can be super helpful for the price once they have started looking into the case.
Get witness accounts
Once I have taken images and made sure I’m okay, the next thing I will want to do is look for any witnesses. At work this may be less likely however on the roads it can be common for people see or hear a commotion. Go over and take their name and phone number and ask if they would be willing to testify to what they have seen. Having a witness can be make or break so this is definitely something to do.
Look for lawyers
Now that the hard part is over and I’m injured and being treated, it is time to start looking for a lawyer. Finding the right injury lawyer is going to be difficult but if I take the time to research and find at least 3 possible candidates it will make my life much easier. Once I have the names of the firms I am thinking of it is time to go to the next stage.
Meet face to face
If I will be trusting someone to win me the money I deserve for my injury, I need to trust the person who will be doing it. Speaking via email or on the phone is fine but to get a real sense of people it is better to meet face to face. Make sure you plan a visit to their office so that you can see all of the facilities they have and also so that you can see what kind of people you are dealing with. Once you get along with someone and trust them, you can hire them for the case.
Claim your money
And finally it’s time to claim the money I am owed! Sitting in court can be a little bit nerve wracking and also a bit boring, but if you can sit calmly and let your lawyer do their thing you shouldn’t have any issues claiming your money. Now you can go out and treat yourself!
