Health Advice That Everybody Over 30 Should Take

Staying healthy should be a focus for us all, but especially for people who are nearing 30 and over. It’s a known fact that younger people recover from illness faster and are able to manage their weight with less effort. It’s never too late to start taking care of our health, and the advice below will help with both our physical and mental health. Take a look! 

  1. Sit Less 

Many of us have sedentary jobs that require us to sit for large portions of the day. It can be tough to get steps in, so making a concentrated effort to walk more is key. Parking further away, walking short journeys, taking regular breaks from a computer, and going on walks wherever possible can help us to get our steps up. Taking it slow at first is key. Eventually, 10,000 steps is a good daily goal to aim for. 


       2. Exercise Should Be Enjoyed

Finding a type of exercise that we truly enjoy and want to stick to can keep us fit in the long run. We can improve our strength, endurance, and cardio fitness with exercise that we actually like to do. It doesn’t matter if it’s swimming, Crossfit, or dancing. Whatever it is, try to do it regularly and get into a routine.

       3. Keep Up With Your Health Appointments 

Staying up to date with your appointments will give you peace of mind, plus, a health professional will be able to spot any issues a long time before you do. Book in your eye exam if you’ve been putting it off. Book a health check-up, a dentist appointment, and even a cervical screening. Don’t underestimate how important it is to keep up with these appointments. 

       4. Find Ways To Reduce Stress 

Stress is a massive problem for people with intense jobs, and even for those who are raising families. Understanding your stress triggers can help you to minimize events in which you feel stressed in the future. A small amount of stress can be beneficial and help us to get things done, but too much stress and we can start to suffer. Sleep can suffer, and appetites can change. Both physical and mental issues can arise from not having the coping strategies available to deal with stress. 

       5. Put A Focus On Your Sleeping Pattern

Sleep helps us to thrive, but we need to make sure we’re getting enough of it. There is no one number that fits all. Experts say as we get older, we require less sleep. However, it can depend on your individual DNA and your lifestyle. It’s a good idea to aim for 8-9 hours of sleep a night, bearing in mind that you will need to be in bed a little longer to give yourself time to fall asleep and acknowledging we often wake up multiple times during the night without recalling it. Go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time each morning to get into a solid pattern.
