It always seems like it is an ongoing battle that you have not just with your children but with yourself when it comes to their health and welfare. You can feel guilty if they have an extra biscuit or chocolate before dinner, you can be beside yourself if they spend most of their time on an iPad no matter how much you nag, and you can worry about their future constantly. It all comes with the territory of being a parent, but you can do things to help encourage a healthier lifestyle for your children. I thought I would share with you what some of them are.

Encourage healthier snacks

Children snack, there is no hiding from that fact. They get hungry between meals and often this is because they are using up a lot of energy during the day. However, you may be worried about the types of snacks you are feeling them, and many do have a high sugar intake. A great tip would be to invest some time making your own snacks. There are many recipes online these days that include things like carrot and pumpkin muffins, biscuits with veg in, and using fruit juice for iced treats and whiz up smoothies. They all taste delicious and the chances are your child will ache no idea how much goodness is in them.

Enroll your children in clubs

It is important to keep your children active and stimulated so you may need to consider things like sports clubs. These can run as extracurricular activities after school or be something you encourage during the summer break. Whether they like football, follow a specific team, and would be interested in enrolling in things like FC Barcelona Canada soccer camps, or it may be that they are a huge Federer fan and want to be the next US Open champion and so tennis camps could be the ideal choice. The best place to start would be what your child is interested in and go from there.

Lead by example

There is no point encouraging a healthier lifestyle as a family, if you don’t do anything yourself. Children look up to their parents to see what they are doing and follow their lead. If you are being healthy, drinking lots of water and eating healthy snacks then that will rub off on your children. This also works when it comes to meal times and encouraging your child to try new things like vegetables.

Enjoy activities as a family

Finally, just like leading by example can help, doing things as a family is a great way to encourage your children to be healthier. Activities you can do include things like family walks or hikes, camping on the weekends, playing sports or heading to your local swimming pool. Simple activities that encourage a healthier approach to life, and they can also double up as quality family time as well.

I hope that these tips and suggestions help your children be a little more healthier.
